Our mission is to equip students with the skills necessary to become godly servant leaders who can communicate effectively and impact the world for Christ. HCC meets at Oak Hills Church, generally the 1st, 3rd, and sometimes 5th Thursday of the month, depending upon where holidays and tournaments fall. We are currently meeting in person. Speech meets from 4:45-6:30, dinner is from 6:30-7:00, and debate is from 7:00-8:45.
HCC members can participate in a variety of speech and debate events. HCC trains student in Team Policy and Lincoln Douglas debate. Team Policy (TP) is a two-on-two debate about policy changes, focused on evidence and logic. Lincoln Douglas (LD) is a one-on-one debate about values and philosophy. For more information about debate, click here. There are also more than ten different speech events, organized into three categories: limited prep (where the student has a few minutes to prepare a speech on a variety of topics), platform (a ten minute prepared speech), and interpretive (a ten minute interpretation of literature). For more information on speech events, click here.
While there are generally several practice tournaments or “round robins” in the Fall, the tournament season officially begins in January. NCFCA has a mix of virtual and in person tournaments each year.
HCC belongs to NCFCA's Region 12. There are usually 4 qualifying tournaments throughout South Texas (Austin, Houston and San Antonio area if not virtual). Early tournaments this year will likely be virtual with the goal for a spring tournament in person if possible. Competitors who advance at any of those qualifying tournaments qualify to Regionals, which is usually held near the end of April/beginning of May. Competitors who place high enough at Regionals (or at National Qualifiers) can qualify for NCFCA Nationals, which is usually held in mid-June.
HCC highly recommends that all senior level members compete in at least one qualifying tournament each season.
To compete, you must affiliate with a competitive league such as NCFCA.
Senior students (students eligible for competition in tournaments) must be 12 year of age by January of the year of competition. Junior students can be 12 or under (although if a student is 13 by September 1st, they cannot compete in tournaments as a junior). Both Juniors and Seniors will participate at HCC club meetings.
HCC only accepts family memberships to families who have at least one “senior” level competitor.
The fee listed in the HCC Club Polices and Information is subject to change based on facility needs, but the price should remain in the current general vicinity.

HCC requires novice debate members to attend a debate camp. Camps are generally offered in the Summer.
